11-25 Ambler Catholic Tournament- Win vs Holy Martyrs. A win is good. Despite VERY sloppy play, we pulled out the win. We'll take it for the first game of the season. Game MVP-Joe F, Mike Scalfaro

11-25 LaSalle Tournament- 1st round loss to St Hillary. We played scared from the very beginning. Luckily the other coach went easy on us by not pressing, although I'm thinking, maybe, it would have made you all play better. We needed some outside shooting and didn't get much of it. Your coach (me) should have tried other outside shooters. Our only bright spot was when Matt Smith scored more points in the span of 30 seconds than the rest of the team in 25 minutes! (a 3 and then a steal and a lay up late in the game). We must NEVER play scared. If you are afraid to fail, then you might as well not play because you WILL FAIL.

11-26 Ambler Catholic Tournament- Win vs St. Luke. Good 1st quarter play until the end of the 1st half. We got very sloppy and took a bunch of shots too quickly. When we didn't make, the other team got back in the game and held the lead until the very end because we continued to rush, take bad shots and throw the ball away. You played the last 2 minutes very well. We stopped the clock by fouling which gave us an opportunity to tie the game and go into overtime. You closed the game by using your momentum in overtime. 11-27 Ambler Catholic Tournament- Loss to Nativity. This team plain out hustled us the entire first half. We were joggging while they were sprinting. We could not adjust to the speed of the game which caused us to make many unforced turnovers. We had trouble even getting in the proper position vs a simple 2-3 defense. In the 3rd quarter we started to get more aggressive on offense but our failure to get back on defense and get any stops caused a 'trade baskets' situation. This was a team that we athletically matched up well with. They were better prepared and that caused us to look way worse than we really are.

12-2 Sash Silver- Win 32-21. This team was fairly big but very slow. We had a comfortable 18 point 1st quarter lead that allowed everyone to get some playing time. Joe F.

12-3 Jude Maroon- Win 37-24. This team was a lower division B team but gave us a hard time with their 1-3-1 defense. We still played a solid game without Joe F for most of the 1st half. MVP Michael Serratore

12-09 Rose Green- Win 32-29. This team is a lower B team. We dominated with our starters but struggled with our subs. This is the first game we saw a man press. Still it was a good experience to have the pressure of losing a game that we should never lose. Remember that the next close game. Guys on the floor, figure out a way to make something good happen instead of being fearfull of losing.

12-10 Martin- Win 37-22. This is an upper B team. We dominated with our starters and our subs did a nice job of keeping any kind of a comeback out of reach. Joe had 23 points and only played about 1/2 the game. We need others to step up and become scorers when Joe is not on the floor.

12-15 Corpus Red-Win 58-39 This was an upper B team. In the first half we led 35-21 but if you take away the 18 points Joe had, we would have been losing 21-17! In the 2nd half we played with more energy and everyone contributed with good defense and scoring. It's not often 11 players all score in one game. Special recognition to Matt Smith for getting Blake the ball with less than 1 minute left so he wouldn't be our only one without scoring.

12-23 Shyba Travel- loss 46-49. This was a good 7th grade travel team. I thought we played really well. A win was not a primary goal here. Everyone got playing time and I think it prepared us for the better teams that are ahead.

12-27 St Geneveve- Win 45-27. This was an average B team. In the first half we played only fair and did not match the intensity of our Shyba Scrimmage.

12-28 Holy Martyrs- Win 40-22 This was a below average B team. In the first half we again played rather poorly. I could see it was hard for us to take that team seriously. However, when we do that, we play DOWN to their level. Consequently, we were only up by a few points at the half. In the second half, we improved dramatically and the bench sparked us to a solid win. I think everyone scored in this game. Nice finish.

12-29 St Rose A- Win 49-35. Our first Boys Varsity SMG Christmas tournament win! We've been in the finals several times but never won. This year it would be different. Good defense and our full court press caused many turnovers. The one negative is that we turned the ball over quite a bit. We rushed our passes, tried to dribble too much and didn't match their intensity when we were on offense. Our foul shooting was our best effort this year. 15-22. That made a big difference in the final score. A nice tournament win against a region 20 A team. Congrats!

01/05 Mt Carmel A- Loss 31-35 OT Great comeback to get the game into overtime. However, I think we were all so excited we tied it up, we forgot to finish in OT. We should have been defensive tap in the OT and they got a layup immediately. Overall excellent confidence booster showing we can compete with any Region 20 team as Mt Carmel is in 1st place.

01/07 Stans A Loss 31-37 We just didn't seem to be in synch this day. Not a bad effort but not our best. 31 points is not enough to beat a quality A team.

01/15 Sash A Loss 39-45 Another slow start. Poor boxouts by almost everyone in the 1st half. Despite excellent defense and forcing turnovers we continued to be tentative and afraid to be aggressive. Our foul trouble forced us to give up some easy baskets and our poor foul shooting and outside shooting didn't help. All this and a just a 6 point loss.

01/20 Jude A Loss 24-30 Excellent Defense, better job of boxing out but our shooting killed us. 6 points at halftime against a decent team. We also did not handle the ball well against their 2-2-1 press and our half court offense. Too many turnovers. Also another game where key players had to sit on the bench for unexcused missed practices.

01/21 OLG Loss 43-45 foul shooting 7-23 and a 2 point loss. We were also very inconsistant on defense with our 3-2. Sometimes it was good. Sometimes it was poor. Lots of missed box outs down low. For the second straight game, Joe got in foul trouble and was forced to sit for quite a while. We need to all figure a way to win these close games.

01-25 Rose A Win 46-41 Finally our first A division win. And we did with a very average game from Joe F. Mike Scalfaro stepped up for his best game of the season with 15 points. Overall a fairly good game by everyone except we didn't play smart at the end of the game allowing too many unforced turnovers on bad judgement plays. Don't forget, when you are winning at the end, you want to slow the game down and make them come to you. Then you get a good chance at a layup to put the game away. We certainly don't need to fast break!

01-27 Mt Carmel B Win This team was pretty weak and everyone could sense it. All 11 players present scored and 9 of 11 scored at least twice. This was a good all around game for everyone. Good effort and execution.

01-28 MMR B Win Another weak team but much more aggressive play by a clearly younger and smaller team caused us to make quite a few unnecessary turnovers. Not our best game but it was good enough for a comfortable win and good contribution by everyone.

02-03 Jude B Win This is the best B team we've played since Guadaloupe. They kept it close the entire game. They consistantly beat our press because we didn't adjust it. We tried to dribble through their zone way too much. We didn't stop ball when they had fast break opportunities, we didn't box out very well although I see improvement. We didnt' jump on loose balls. We didn't slow down the tempo on offense when they made a run. Positives: Our shooting is better. We made a lot of layups, some foul shots and outside shots. We were in the proper position more often than usual on defense. We are playing at a faster speed which is very important. A good win. MVP Joe F and Josh.

02-04 MMR B Win. This was our last regular season game. We certainly made the game interesting but a win is always good. That gives us a final record of 9-1 in Northern division and a 2nd seed for the playoffs.

02-11 Martin Win. 40-22 This team probably suprised us a little. They had one solid player and a couple of good shooters. At the end of the 1st quarter the score was tied 14-14. From there on out we dominated the game for an easy win. However, we can afford to spot teams a whole 1st quarter and give them confidence that they can compete with us.

02-17 Rose Loss 40-45 Obviously a very disapointing end to an otherwise very successfull season. After an 11-0 start, everything that could go wrong....went wrong. . We could not overcome the stone cold shooting, poor coaching and a couple of very bad ref calls especially the offensive foul on Joe that basically forced him to the bench in the 4th quarter just when we needed him most. Despite the loss, I saw the best effort and emotion on the court that I saw all year. This is what I have been looking for from all of the players and it shows that you have matured as players and as young men. You can be proud of your dedication and accomplishments.
